Healing that Honors Your Whole Story.

Amy Bachhuber, L.Ac.

Licensed Acupuncturist

Hi, I’m Amy.

Acupuncturist. Ecologist. Founder of The Permission Project.

I help people who’ve tried everything else.

I am a licensed acupuncturist and somatic guide based in Hancock, Michigan.

Before becoming an acupuncturist, I studied ecology at Michigan Tech, where I learned to look at systems as interconnected and always in relationship. That same ecological lens is what drew me to East Asian medicine — an approach that understands the body as a living landscape, shaped by patterns, environment, and the history we carry.

My path into this work was personal: I was navigating my own chronic migraines, and Chinese medicine was the first system that truly helped. Over more than a decade of practice, I’ve continued to blend that ecological understanding with trauma-informed care, offering steady, thoughtful support to people who haven’t found answers elsewhere. I’ve worked extensively with veterans and am passionate about providing personalized, attentive holistic care. My goal is simple: to help your body find relief by treating the whole system, not just the symptoms.

In addition to acupuncture, I’m the founder of The Permission Project — a resource for high-capacity people who are always reliable, always capable, and quietly carrying more than anyone knows. My work there explores what I call the invisible load: the emotional, anticipatory, and practical responsibility that builds up when you’re the one everyone depends on. You can find my primary content for that work on TikTok @PermissionProject.

My work is also inspired by my personal transformations through challenges in my own life including childhood trauma, codependency, solo parenting, raising children with disabilities, and entrepreneurship.

When I’m not in the clinic, you’ll find me exploring the beautiful shores of Lake Superior, in the woods foraging wild mushrooms, spending time with my Doberman Boris, reading or listening to books, and generally creating or learning something to enrich my life!

My Approach

My work combines classical East Asian medicine with a nervous-system aware approach, creating treatment plans that address both current symptoms and the deeper root causes behind them.

Many of my patients come to me after trying medications, imaging, and referrals yet they are still dealing with pain, fatigue, digestive issues, stress, or chronic inflammation.

Alongside acupuncture, I specialize in Chinese herbal formulas to support digestion, hormones, pain relief, immune function, and long-term regulation.

My goal is to help you finally understand what’s happening in your body and give you a clear, effective path toward real improvement using East Asian medicine.
